recruited in the programme annually over the years.

County yesterday, the CS said they have expanded the NYS training facility
to accommodate the increased number of recruits adding that recruitment
will be done thrice a year.

“The NYS training facility will now be able to accommodate about 15,000
recruits. Recruitment will be done thrice a year to meet the 45,000
target,” she said.

She added that the programme has employed about 130,000 youth since it was
launched by the Jubilee government in 2015.

She said in the new expanded programme, 10 percent of the recruits will be
people with disability, to provide them with opportunities to sustain
themselves.

The CS said the youth have saved about Sh30 billion in the various Sacco’s
which they will be able to utilise to sustain themselves in businesses and
enable them prosper.

She called on the youth to embrace other government funded youth
empowerment programmes such as the youth and Uwezo funds to start business
and improve their livelihood.

She said the government has already disbursed Sh12 billion to the Youth
Enterprise Fund and called on them to embrace the opportunity to empower
themselves.

“These empowerment programmes are meant to remove idleness from our youth.
We aim to have an empowered youth to accelerate the development of the
country and that is why they should grab all these opportunities that the
government is presenting to them,” she said.
